The installation of PBX in a Flash is fairly straight-forward. First, you download and install VMware on your Windows Desktop. Then you download both the PBX in a Flash ISO image and the VMware config module for PBX in a Flash . Then you start up the Virtual Machine and boot from the VMware module for PBX in a Flash . The rest of the installation follows the usual PBX in a Flash install which will not be repeated here. See our tutorials for detailed instructions.
From your Windows Desktop, open a web browser. Then download and install the VMware Player accepting the defaults specified by the install program. The Mac install is similar except you must purchase VMware Fusion . Once the installation completes, create a pbxinaflash folder in the root directory of your default drive: md . Note: Both the directory name and location are important, or the PBX in a Flash install will fail.
Because we always install the very latest CentOS and Asterisk components in real time, PBX in a Flash requires an Internet connection and a DHCP-generated IP address for the install to complete. So your particular hardware platform must include a network card for which CentOS 5.6 has a driver. It’s actually part of the kernel in Linux. The good news is that, even if your network driver is missing, we provide all of the tools you’ll need to compile the missing piece on the fly as part of the install. Just download the Linux driver from your manufacturer, copy the driver to a thumb drive, insert it into a USB slot on your server, drop down to the Linux command prompt and compile the driver , and then resume the install.
You dont have to run update programs/update-fixes after the initial install. That being said update-fixes does deal with some critical security updates and could mess with iptables. Dont want the hassle then dont run the extra stuff. Incredible PBX is simply an addon-pack for PBX in a Flash. Incredible PBX does not install Asterisk, FreePBX, or any of the base PBX functionality. That is all in PIAF. It simply adds GVoice configuration, and other things like weather reports and firewall whitelist.
Just download the latest PBX in a Flash ISO, burn to then boot from the PIAF CD, choose the Purple Edition to load Asterisk 1.8 and FreePBX 2.8, and then install the new Incredible PBX for Asterisk 1.8. In about an hour, you’ll have a turnkey PBX with a local phone number and free calling in the U.S. and Canada via your own Google Voice account plus dozens and dozens of terrific Asterisk applications to keep your head spinning for months.
Protect your IP and browse the web anonymously
There are many ways that your IP address can become compromised. You may not think much of it, but your IP address can be used to harm you in many ways. With your IP address, a user can find out where you live, and spy on your browsing/downloading history. With this kind of information, tools like packet sniffers, Firesheep, and other types of malware can be used to intercept email contents, passwords, login credentials, and even your credit card information if you do any type of online shopping. It’s a good idea to protect your IP and browse the web anonymously. This can be achieve in one of two ways. You can use a proxy to make website requests for you, or you can use a virtual private network to change your IP address. Both of these tools are available for access or download from the internet, and you don’t have to purchase any external hardware.
